Get it off the tape.
Tape transfer moves a recording off aging physical media and into a clean digital file. We work with legacy formats like reel-to-reel, cassette and DAT, and others in the same family. A studio that has run since 1941 has seen most of what tape can do, and most of the ways it fails.
The transfer is only as good as the playback. We set up the machine, calibrate it to the tape, and play it back carefully so the capture reflects what was actually recorded. Where a tape has gone fragile or sticky, it can be baked first so it survives a pass without shedding.
From there we capture at high resolution and deliver two kinds of file. An archival copy to preserve, and a listening copy to actually use. The original goes back to you with notes on what we found.
For tape transfer and digitizing in Houston, SugarHill brings analog recordings safely into the digital world.
Saved, and safe to play.
The recording comes back as files you can store and files you can share, with the original handled like it matters.
- High-resolution capture that holds onto the detail on the tape.
- Archival files to preserve and listening files to use day to day.
- Basic per-transfer notes on the source and how the pass went.
- Careful handling of fragile media, with baking when a tape needs it.
