Every room here works for real, on real records, with its own console at its heart. The list below is the gear we document in writing today; anything not listed is confirmed when you book.
This is the big tracking floor, the one built for a full band playing together in one space. A NEOTEK console with thirty-six inputs sits at the center, enough to put a whole rhythm section, horns and vocals on tape at once.
The room itself goes back to the move onto Brock Street and the rebuilds that followed. It is the live heart of the building, the floor where most of the records were cut the way records used to be cut, in the room, all at once.
Goldstar is a control room with a Neve at its heart. A Neve Genesys Black runs the room, the kind of console an engineer reaches for when the goal is a finished, balanced record rather than a rough capture.
The layout follows a 1964 design after Jack Clement, the engineer out of Sun Studios in Memphis. It carries the name of the label this place ran under in its early years, when Gold Star was the imprint and Houston was learning what it sounded like.
The Duke Room is where overdubs, vocals, editing and mix work get done. An Avid D-Command sits at the center, built around the kind of session that adds to a track and shapes it rather than capturing a whole band at once.
It is the oldest of the rooms by design date, going back to a 1959 build under Bill Quinn. Augspurger Duo12 monitors with a Sub18 carry the low end while a part gets cut, comped or finished.
Designed by Jack Clement in 1964, built out when Gold Star Studios was completed, these are real physical echo chambers, rooms made to bounce sound. A signal goes out into the space, picks up the natural decay of the room, and comes back as reverb no plug-in copies exactly. That chamber sound is on hit records across the studio's history.
The chambers are miked with an Altec 604E and an RCA 44, the same kind of capture that put the room's echo on records for decades. Send a vocal or a snare out there and it returns wearing Houston.
You can still print a track through them. It is one of the few places left where you send a song out into a real room and get the echo back the way records used to get it.
